December 2017 saw the completion of the warehouse extension in our NSW venue. The project involved the reconfiguration of car parking and the construction of an additional 1,667 m2 of warehouse area. This new space increases our warehouse holding capacity by 37%, from 2,991 m2 to 4,658 m2. Additional racking will be fitted to also increase the functionality of the space.
While the design and construction of the new warehouse area was relatively straight forward, the challenge was integrating the new building with the existing building so as not to effect its integrity and use. A second aim was to be able to extend the warehouse area without effecting the day to day operations.
Our expanded NSW warehouse will now ensure we have space to supply and meet the increased demand of our customers. We also expect to lower costs and improve customer service mainly by providing a means to have the right products available at the right time.
We recently supplied a brand new display cabinet to Heinemann Duty Free at Sydney International Airport: a beautiful back-to-back self-contained island cabinet by #Eurocryor (#EptaGroup). Special features in this “gondola” style 3M2 climatic class installation are wooden décor and 4000K energy saving LED lighting. AJ Baker & Sons exhibited a prototype of this case - the very first of this kind in Australia - during a previous #FineFood Show. The cabinet will be officially presented soon with the name of “Penisola”.
We have recently been awarded the Teak Corp Winery commercial kitchen fit-out, working alongside the celebrity chef Pete Evans who is a consultant on the project. Formerly known as Delacolline Winery in beautiful Port Lincoln, the 24 acre property is one of only three vineyards on Eyre Peninsula. Owner and developer Peter Teakle is on a mission to bring more visitors to his beloved Port Lincoln.
We cooperated to the construction of the new restaurant and cellar door which will showcase the best food and wine from this region and South Australia. The fit-out includes specialised cooking equipment by Frima and Rational.
Less than two years after our valued partner Aldi Australia first opened its doors in South Australia, the discount grocer has just inaugurated its 25th store: Aldi Victor Harbor (SA).
Also in this brand new shop we have installed our exclusive Strateo refrigeration display cabinets by Epta Group. The refrigeration systems operate with a Epta Pack utilising CO2 R744 (GWP=1) and low GWP refrigerant R134a. The Sub Critical Hybrid CO2 / R134a design delivers a reduction in the carbon footprint of the plant and ongoing optimised energy savings. Other energy initiatives which are incorporated into the refrigeration system design are: electronic expansion valves, variable speed drives on condenser fans and capacity control for compressors. The store manager also has the ability to supervise the entire system (case temperatures and plant operation) via a centralised Danfoss control panel.
Aldi employs more than 400 people in its South Australian corporate office, Regency Park Distribution Centre and store network. It partners with 32 local suppliers, including businesses like San Remo, Bickfords, Beerenberg and Spring Gully. Since opening on 3 February 2016, Aldi has served approximately ten million South Australian shoppers. With a strong presence in metropolitan areas, in 2018 the grocery will be focused on expanding into regional areas with store openings planned for Port Pirie, Murray Bridge and Kadina. More locations will be confirmed in 2018 and the long-term expansion will see in up to 50 stores state-wide.
