ALDI Haynes – Western Australia
For the new ALDI Haynes store in Western Australia, our Perth team delivered a fully integrated refrigeration solution designed around efficiency, reliability and long-term sustainability. ALDI Haynes is one of the first stores in WA to have its fresh produce cases fitted with glass doors.
The result is a future-ready store that supports ALDI’s operational standards while reducing environmental impact and ongoing energy use.
Epta Transcritical CO₂ at the Core
At the heart of the store is an EPTA ECO Small Pack transcritical CO₂ refrigeration rack, engineered to serve both medium- and low-temperature loads across the supermarket.
Why it matters
- Ultra-low GWP R744 refrigerant supports long-term regulatory compliance
- Compact packaged design suits modern supermarket plant rooms
- Optimised electronic controls deliver high seasonal efficiency
- Lower refrigerant charge compared to traditional DX systems
Heat rejection is handled by a LU-VE CO₂ gas cooler, selected for high ambient performance and low noise output. To further improve efficiency during peak summer conditions, a CO₂ gas cooler chill booster was integrated, reducing outlet temperatures and improving overall system COP.
A dedicated ALDI temperature control switchboard provides compliant electrical distribution and isolation, supporting the rack, gas cooler and connected case loads.
Reliable Storage Where It Counts
Back-of-house freezer and chiller rooms are served by Buffalo Trident GACC2 compact evaporators, purpose-selected for CO₂ operation and hygiene-focused environments.
System highlights
- CO₂-rated evaporator design
- Compact ceiling-mounted units to maximise usable space
- Easy-clean construction aligned with HACCP requirements
- Stable temperature control for frozen, dairy and produce storage
These systems ensure consistent product temperatures from delivery through to the shop floor.
Consistent Presentation Across Every Category
Sales-floor refrigeration is anchored by Bonnet Névé AVENUE ECO multideck cabinets, all remotely connected to the central Epta CO₂ plant.
Common performance features
- High-efficiency EC fans and LED shelf lighting
- Soft-close glass doors
Each food category is supported by a cabinet configuration tailored to its specific requirements, fresh produce, meat, smallgoods, dairy, milk and yoghurt, ensuring uniform temperatures, strong product visibility and reduced dehydration.
High-Efficiency Frozen Food Displays
Frozen food islands are delivered using AHT ATHEN XL ECO chest and top freezers, operating as plug-in units with natural refrigerant R290.
Key advantages
- Extremely low energy consumption
- Flexible island and line-up configurations
- Semi-automatic defrost and LED-lit sliding glass lids
- Ideal for high-traffic frozen food zones
These units complement the central CO₂ system while maintaining efficiency and layout flexibility.
Built-In Protection and Monitoring
To support safety and compliance, a CO₂ gas detection system was installed throughout the plant room and cold rooms, providing continuous monitoring with audible and visual alarms linked to the refrigeration plant.
The ALDI Haynes project demonstrates how careful equipment selection, matched documentation and integrated design delivers a refrigeration system that:
- Reduces environmental impact
- Improves energy performance
- Supports consistent product quality
- Is built to operate reliably for the long term
From central plant to final cabinet, Baker Refrigeration delivered one coordinated solution, engineered, installed and commissioned to perform from day one.
